Frank Bruce: contemporary art in a unique setting.
Entrance to the scuplture trail
I guess a lot of people will be holidaying in the UK this year, given all the trouble with air travel.
For art lovers who find themselves in the Spey Valley, Aviemore, Scotland, check out the Frank Bruce Sculpture Trail. It is unique, original art.
Where to find the Frank Bruce Sculpture Trail
It is on the banks of the River Feshie, between the village of Kincraig and Feshiebridge. Twelve of the late Frank Bruce’s original sculptures are positioned along a waymarked trail in Inshariach Forest. A truly unique setting for his original art.
A biog of Frank Bruce
Frank Bruce stopped attending school at the age 0f 13 and then had many jobs, from sweeper-up to sports manager, and others too numerous to mention. He is a self taught sculpture working in wood and stone. He started to sculpt, following an operation to his back. The medical advice was to give up the manual work to which he was accustomed. So he took up carving to say ” I am still here”.
This is what Frank Bruce had to say about his own original art “I looked at other artists, none of them were or had used the visual harmonies in the trees that speak to the mind and the associations which these images call up exploiting the associations of the abstract. There can be no form free from association and moral and social criticism.”
Frank Bruce has created sculptures from wood and stone from 1965 until his death in 2009. A trust is working hard to raise £300k to build a gallery to house Frank Bruce’s small sculptures along side the Sculpture Trail. Anyone of a mind can help them raise that money so, if you can, help them to complete the perfect showcase for his contemporary art.
I really enjoyed wandering along the sculpture trail which takes around one hour and is fully accessible.
